Prof Argyris has graduated from the Athens Economics and Commerce School in 1966. He joined the Economics School in Frei Universitat Berlin where he completed his postgraduate studies and was awarded his PhD in 1975. He joined the Department of Economics at Aristotle University in 1976 Professor Argyris was the first head of the newly formed Department of Economics. He worked and established the updated and quite novel for the time curriculum of studies in the Department of Economics.

In his 25-year career as a professor, he taught a wide spectrum of economics topics and published his research in high-rank journals. He also supervised a significant number of PhD students. Professor Argyris was also Chairman of the Thessaloniki Port Authority as well as Chairman of the Greek Economic Chamber.
